Puerto Vallarta: Where the Sun, Sea, and Fun Never End

Puerto Vallarta, or PVR as it’s fondly called by locals, is an unforgettable destination with sparkling waters and white-sand beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see. Not to mention the incredible culinary delicacies Mexico has to offer! If you’re in Puerto Vallarta, one of the must-visit places is Malecon. It’s a mesmerizing location with something for the whole family. Enjoy panoramic views of Banderas Bay from this vibrant street, lined with historic buildings and sculptures made by prominent Mexican artists and filled with shops selling artworks and souvenirs.

Malecon Beach Boardwalk
The Malecon boardwalk runs along the beachfront in downtown Puerto Vallarta and is one of the most popular attractions. It is lined with shops, restaurants, bars and clubs that are open late into the night. The boardwalk also features sculptures by local artists as well as live entertainment during certain times of the year. Take a stroll along the boardwalk in the evening to experience its fun atmosphere and enjoy watching street performers show off their talents.

Marina Vallarta
For those looking for a leisurely day out on the water, Marina Vallarta is one of the most popular marinas in town. Here you can rent boats or jet skis to explore more of what Puerto Vallarta has to offer from a different perspective. Don’t forget to bring your camera; there are some amazing views to be seen! There are also plenty of restaurants located around Marina Vallarta so you can enjoy some delicious seafood while taking in all that nature has to offer.

El Faro Lighthouse
If you’re up for an adventure, head out on an excursion to El Faro Lighthouse – one of Puerto Vallarta’s most famous landmarks located at Punta de Mita just outside town. This lighthouse offers stunning views from atop its tower overlooking Banderas Bay and Marietas Islands – it’s definitely worth seeing! You can also go snorkeling or scuba diving near El Faro if you’re feeling adventurous enough; there are plenty of sea creatures living here that make for great photo ops!

Puerto Vallarta offers something for everyone; whether you’re looking for an adventure-filled getaway or just want to relax on beautiful beaches with breathtaking views, this Mexican paradise has it all! From Malecon Beach Boardwalk where you can find culture and entertainment right on its doorstep, through Marina Vallarta where boating enthusiasts can explore further offshore, all culminating with a trip up El Faro Lighthouse offering spectacular views over Banderas Bay – your vacation won’t be complete without experiencing these must-see spots in Puerto Vallarta! So why not make plans now? Start packing your bags today and let your unforgettable journey begin!

Is a River Cruise RIGHT for you?

River Cruising has been around for ages, it’s something I , foolishly assumed, only “older’ people did. I had this vision in my mind it was slow, quiet and boring. That the cruisers sat around listening to people talk about historical architecture and drinking tea. …. in short, I was wrong. Well, mostly wrong – there is historical discussions as you’re cruising but it’s interesting and can be easily tuned out if that’s not your thing.

This November I went on my first river cruise with Amadeus. It was a 4 night cruise on the Rhine River during the ” Magic of Advent” , it was a bucket list experience for my Mom and me to experience the Christmas Markets so we did it! I was pleasantly surprised as soon as we boarded this gorgeous vessel. It was small and intimate, ported right in the center of Cologne ( super convenient ) the staff was courteous and welcoming. By the second day they knew you by name! The cabins were modern and spacious – with gorgeous panoramic views. I was not expecting to enjoy a small ship – but it quickly grew on me!

Each morning and sometimes twice in one day we were in a different city! The ease and speed of traveling on the rivers makes these cruises so efficient for crossing off multiple destinations on your list!

We chose to book some guided tours through Amadeus to introduce us to each port city. Each tour left us with a couple of hours for free time to explore. Another unexpected perk to river cruising is that these ports are not bombarded by tons of cruise passengers because occupancies are limited on these vessels it makes your in-destination experience much more authentic feeling. Our tour guides were all locals and were true wealths of knowledge. I could tell Amadeus cared about the experiences their cruisers were having on shore just as much as their experiences on board.

As I mentioned I didn’t think I was ready for river cruising, I mean I’m 30 and love the nightlife. BUT I was extremely impressed with my experience and already have another booked for this Spring! If you are like me and think it’s not “your time” for river cruising, think again. River cruises are often fast paced, you’re somewhere new everyday, you don’t have to un-pack or worry about multiple forms of transportation – you have a luxury hotel on a gorgeous river, showing you many of the world’s most beautiful places, what’s not to love?

If my experience interests you in river cruising, please reach out – I’d love to share more details and offer you a tailored quote for your river cruise experience!

How to Plan a Stress Free Honeymoon

When planning a wedding and honeymoon, the feeling of overwhelm and stress can creep in really quickly.

Follow the tips below to help ease the overwhelm in planning your honeymoon.

1. Consider waiting a few days after your wedding before departing! Getting married on a Saturday? I recommend waiting until Monday or Tuesday to depart for your honeymoon. This will give you some time to rest and relax a bit after just having your amazing wedding before jumping right into your honeymoon travels.

2. Plan Early. The earlier the better! If you already have your heart set on an over-the-water bungalow or a specific highly sought-after hotel, you’ll want to get those reservations secured up to two years in advance to avoid the risk of being sold out. The earliest you can book flights is 10 months from your departure date. I can take care of all of these details for you.

3. Discuss what you think your dream honeymoon will look like.  Make sure it works for both of you. Maybe your fiance wants to play golf and you want to go to the spa. Maybe you want an oceanview room and he wants to be sure there’s room service! Knowing these things in advance is so helpful.

4. Ensure your passports are valid. Passports with at least six months validity post travel are required and considered valid for most international travel. Jessica’s extra PRO TIP: As excited as you are to update your passport to your new married name – DON’T change your name on your passport until it expires. You can still travel with your maiden name and it will save you money from renewing your passport.

5. Work with a professional. As a travel advisor – I make all of the above recommendations to my clients and so much more. I am available to my clients to ask any questions throughout the planning process. No googling necessary! I help alleviate the stress and overwhelm that can come from planning the honeymoon and make the process easy and fun!

Rail Travel : Top 5 Reasons Why First Class is Worth It!

I love train travel. Honestly, I wish it was available more in the States, but here we are. So we often travel by rail on our European adventures, and we have learned it is often best to splurge on First Class tickets when it comes to long distance train rides.

Hear me out. Having taken multiple European trips on a budget, sometimes it seems like it’s worth the lack of comfort in standard class rail ticket to save a few dollars, but it is not.

During our recent trip to Belgium and Germany, this became very clear. On our second day we booked a standard class ticket from Brussels to Brugge. We figured it was only an hour away, no need to upgrade. We were wrong. First of all, the seats are not assigned. It is a free for all and you just take what you can get. The style of train compartment for this journey were 4 seats facing each other with a “table” in the middle. In standard class, it is a very tight fit. We are no strangers to train travel when in Europe, but we are not surprised when someone we don’t know sits down on the other side of the table.

After the hour of feeling like we were crammed in a sardine can, we opted to purchase first class tickets on our return. Since it was still the same train line, the compartment style was the similar with 4 seats groups and a table, but there was legroom for days! Although our seats were not assigned, there were far less people trying to cram into the first class cars.

The next day we traveled first class from Brussels, Belgium to Düsseldorf, Germany, a 3 hour train ride. We were able to reserve our seats and they were comfortable with a foot rest. It was such an enjoyable ride.

Here are my Top 5 reasons you should definitely upgrade to First Class on your  next rail journey :

5. Quiet Cars | These are train cars are perfect for those who need to work or want to unwind on their journey. Guests are asked to limit conversation and speak in subdued tones. Phone calls are not allowed and all portable electronic devices must be muted or used with headphones. Like WiFi, availability does depend on the train line and route.

4. WiFi | This does depend on the train line and route, but many of the longer length voyages offer WiFi in first class in the price of your ticket.

3. Less Crowded | Larger seats means less seats, which means less crowded. After hustling and bustling through the cities, it is nice to sit in your own space during a journey, especially a long one. The cabins are usually quieter due to less people, as well.

2. Comfortable Seats | All trains are different, but I think we can all agree the first class seats are far more comfortable than those in standard class. On our ride from Brussels to Düsseldorf, the seat was fully adjustable/reclined, had plenty of space, also had a footrest and tray table.

1. Legroom | I am not a tall person, but I do love to stretch out. Even when sharing a table in a first class cabin, there is enough room that you don’t feel the need to put your feet under your seat to keep from kicking your neighbor.

On top of these fantastic reasons, the price difference usually is not substantial and the comfort outweighs the cost, in my opinion.

Top 5 Beaches to Visit in Italy

Can’t decide between a European vacation and a beach vacation? Look no further – these five beaches in Italy are must-sees and are sure to cure your need for some rest and relaxation.

1. CAPRI – MARINA PICCOLA

Capri’s Marina Piccola is a tranquil and semi-secluded stretch of coastline off of the southern part of the island. It is surrounded by quaint restaurants and colorful lounge chairs and umbrellas, and the water stays a beautiful turquoise blue. The Scoglio delle Sirene cliff separates the marina into two beaches, both of which are protected from the wind and exposed to the sun — perfect for an afternoon swim! Sunbathe on the warm pebble beach with a crisp glass of white wine at this ultimate relaxation station. Marina Piccola can be reached by bus from the Piazzetta or by foot, following Via Roma to Due Golfi, and taking the stairs down Via Mulo; only about a 15-minute walk.

2. CAMPO ALL’AI – ELBA

One of the longest beaches on the Island of Elba, this sandy beach is also one of the most popular beaches on the island. Most of the beach is free, however there are restaurants on the left-hand side of the beach as well as  La Guardiola Sailing Club which runs a mooring wharf for boat trips. Feeling adventurous? After soaking in the sun, you can swim out to the shipwreck of a Roman cargo ship that sank in 190 A.D., lying on the sea bed a few hundred meters out. The water is relatively shallow and is perfect for kids or for those who just want to get their feet wet!

3. SCALA DEI TURCHI – SICILY

The Scala dei Turchi (“Turkish Steps”) is one of the most popular beaches in Italy on account of its unique and spectacular shoreline. The cliffside is built from rock that, over time, developed ridges all the way down, imitating a white marble staircase. This beach is located in southwest Sicily in the town Realmonte. After admiring the coast and cliffside, venture to one of the nearby Roman villages for a cappuccino or espresso!

4. SAN FRUTTUOSO – LIGURIA

Not only is San Fruttuoso perfect for those wanting a more secluded beach destination, but the history buff will be delighted by the Benedictine Monastery located just steps from the beach itself! San Fruttuoso is only accessible by boat/ferry or a long hike and is nestled between the cities of Portofino and Camogli. Spend time soaking in the sun or go snorkeling in the crystal clear waters and explore the sunken statue of the Cristo degli Abissi (Christ of the Abyss), a submerged statue of Jesus Christ that was placed in the Ligurian Sea.

5. CALA GOLORITZE – SARDINIA

Last but not least, visit the secluded cove of Cala Goloritzé which is only reachable by boat and by foot. This beach is famous for its towering rock pinnacle rising 143 meters above the cove. Cala Goloritzè was declared a national monument of Sardinia; with its cerulean blue water and natural arch that opens on the right side of the bay, it lives up to its name. The beach is a mix of small white pebbles and sand, and is known for its warm water and good weather!

A New Years Cruise, Is It Right For You?

I recently returned from a 9 night Royal Caribbean, Odyssey Of The Seas cruise that sailed over the New Years Eve holiday. I have for years wanted to celebrate ringing in the new year at sea. I have been to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Austin, Dallas, Chicago and many other cities for New Years celebrations, but never on a cruise, even though I am obsessed with cruising. This year was the year. I found a fantastic deal for this 9 night cruise and it clicked off so many bucket list items for me that I couldn’t pass it up. Within the course of one cruise I was going to be checking off, New Years Eve at sea, Solo cabin, 9 nights on a ship, and the Southern Caribbean.

When I booked this cruise I had expectations that this was going to be a cruise that skewed a little older in age demographic being that it was a 9 night cruise, and that the energy on the ship would be a little more on the relaxing side, and I have to tell you. I was wrong. This ship was full of families, couples, singles, veteran cruisers, new cruisers, and solos. This was the most diverse group of cruisers that I have ever been a part of and at one point our cruise director told us there were 62 nationalities represented on board and it showed. The energy of the ship was bright and alive, the excitement was contagious and the party lasted from day one all the way to the end of the cruise.

The New Years Eve celebrations on the ship were very well planned and they had something that was going to fit everyone’s style of how they wanted to ring in the new year. Odyssey of the Seas had the celebrations broken up across the ship to keep any one area from having to carry the bulk of the passengers. There was a party under the stars up on the pool deck, where there was a DJ playing some awesome music and a member of the entertainment staff was keeping everyone hyped up and moving. The dance floor was packed all night and everyone was having a great time. Down on the Esplanade the Staff had arranged a Times Square style countdown, with a Balloon drop, There was a band playing live music and it was packed wall to wall just like Times Square. Back in the 270 Lounge ( a multi use space on the quantum class ships) there was a premium VIP celebration that was actually an up-charge event that included Champagne toasts, VIP bar service and a private celebration for the midnight countdown. People that were looking for a quiet and peaceful celebration had the option to go to the Royal Theater up at the front of the ship where they simply played the Times Square Traditional countdown for a nice quiet night, while still being part of the fun. Royal Caribbean went above and beyond and set up celebrations for children that lasted all the way until 2AM this way parents that wanted to celebrate could, while knowing that there kids were in good hands and having their own special New Years Eve events.

I was thoroughly impressed with the attention that Royal Caribbean gave to the special celebrations. That attention was carried on for the rest of the week, there wasn’t a slack off after the new years celebrations, as a matter of fact the energy just kept growing. Entertainers throughout the ship were bringing their A games and on several occasions I saw scheduled entertainment times extended by the entertainers that were caught up in the energy of the crowd and the ship. The night club was full and dance floor active every night of the cruise, the Bars were full of energy and excitement, and the pizza joint Sorrentos was full until 3 am each and every night. I was most impressed that even as the ship was alive with energy and sailing almost full, there was always a spot to go enjoy some serene peace and quiet.

When I ask the question is a New Years Eve cruise right for you, the answer is simply  YES. There is absolutely something for everyone on a holiday cruise and If this type of cruise is on your bucket list you won’t regret checking it off, and if its not on your bucket list yet, Add it.
